Description

Page 6 from �Lizzy�s Boys� (October 15, 1950). Seven dynamic Spirit panels featuring imagery of tunnels and underground Central City (New York). Each is something of a gem, starting with gangster Lizzy disguised as a blind beggar shaking off The Spirit�s post-Ebony sidekick Sammy and his young friend Willum (originally, some will recall, John Law�s sidekick) who try to stack up adult-size. The next four panels take us into the sewer system, a place Will Eisner loved to draw man hole covers, ladders, pipes, tunnels, and flowing water were all eye candy to Eisner. The final two panels, though separated by a panel gutter, effectively create a panoramic view. Our masked hero himself isn�t on this page (he was barely in the entire story!) but the atmospheric drawings are all-Eisner for fans who appreciate the art itself as much as a particular character. Will Eisner and a young Jules Feiffer assisting him co-wrote the script with background assistance by Jerry Grandenetti, Andre LeBlanc, Manny Stallman, or Jim Dixon.

This measures 15 x 22 inches (38.1 x 55.9 cm) on Bristol board.
