Kent Shakespeare by Tom Fowler and Simon Gough

Random fact: the first issue of Legion of Super-Heroes that I picked up off the stands was #23 of the 1989 series. This was part 3 of the Quiet Darkness and about as new reader unfriendly as you can get. But I dug it! I had read two Legion stories a few years before this in a reprint digest that my brother owned, but this "5 Year Later" Legion was something else altogether! Anywho, I commissioned�Tom Fowler to draw Kent Shakespeare for me and Tom gave me Kent along with a scene that was inspired by the Quiet Darkness, featuring Darkseid, Laurel Gand, Blok, Brainiac 5 and even a Probe! I love what Tom came up with here with Kent going all in on attacking a bloodied Darkseid who has obviously�defeated Blok. Laurel and Brainy's faces as they try to stop Kent are fantastic, and I also dig the apathetic Probe. I then sent this one over to Simon and he worked his many-hued magic on it. I love the purples here, as they match Darkseid's elegant outfit. So yes, yet again Tom and Simon have produced a beyond fantastic commission and I couldn't be happier to own it!

If you like this piece, then go buy some books featuring Tom's work and/or go buy some of his art for yourself.

Great composition, and dynamic! Also dig the cartoony style. I'm definitely gonna try to get on his commission list next time it opens up! Congrats, Travis!

Thanks! I truly cannot recommend Tom enough. I just give him a character and he comes up with the rest. He blows me away every time!

I do love that Darkseid finally got a sense of style in the 30th century after thousands of years in the same boring outfit. Great piece with a character (Kent Shakespeare) who I always wanted to see further developed.

I tried to portray him as Orson Welles... maybe a little too much "Wine Before It's Time."

Looks so cool with the leap of Kent Shakespeare from the back to the front with levels of depth in play. Entertaining with this mix of characters.
