Description

Cover dated December 1989.

This comic book answered the question that was on the minds of many collectors in the late 1980s - what if there were a supremely powerful cosmic being modeled after Whoopi Goldberg? Sadly, DC never followed through on rumored plans for a god-like character based on Billy Crystal.

"we're just this bunch of gigantic, ageless characters who, for various reasons, hang out around the galaxy as the living embodiment of some abstract concept or other"

Jon Bogdanove came up with the concept of The View 8 years before it aired.

It's the ancient enemy races of the Snarks and Kymellians.  Sort of like if the Skrulls couldn't change shape and the Kree were horses.

YES! That WAS the question that was on my mind throughout the 80's! I've alway loved Gray Morrow's art, but what an odd title to have done a fill-in for. So cool!

I know what's next in the Marvel Unlimited queue, as I need to find out how all of this both started and gets resolved!

That first panel leaves me speechless.

I love how Gray Morrow draws the Power Pack kids. June Brigman is THE Power Pack artist for me but I feel that Morrow draws them as actual children more so than super-powered kids if that makes sense.

Oda Mae Brown : My mother had Morrow art. My mother's mother had Morrow art. They both had the gift. They always said he drew it, and I never kid. I never had it. They told me what it was like.  They told me all about it, but now that I got it, I don't think I want it.  So do me a favor, just go away. Find some other page.

Sam : Some other page?  You're out of your mind.

Oda Mae Brown : I'm gettin' there fast.

This is the exact scene that earned Whoopi her Oscar.

Nice to see Guinan finally got a promotion!

(DC didn't want to use Billy Crystal's image, it looked Marvelous ;)

I immediately saw that and was thinking. Is that Whoopi? I guess my Whoopi skills remain intact.
