Sensational Spider-Man #26 COVER, 1998 -- Spidey vs Sandman AND Hydro-Man!!

Battling one villian would make for a nice cover but two makes it freaking awesome! 

Battle of the elements, and Spidey's caught in the middle! Looks like hes having some trouble but Rek-Rap would solo both though, no difficulty. 

While Ditko established the original vision of the character, and Romita gave us the enduring definitive version, I still feel like the the most character friendly artists are those whose styles lean toward cartoony.  People like Wieringo, Scherberger, and Nauck are really able to imbue the art with the playful nature of the character.  While the Dark Knight version of Batman works brilliantly, I don't think the same applies to Spidey.  Which is probably why I never bought into the black suit, or the character of Venom for that matter.  Anyway, great battle cover!  Sandman is one of my favorite classic villains.

Now now, I've been pretty faithful to my Spider-Verse theme, though I do occasionally get distracted by other bright shiny objects,

Aunt May's gonna be pissed with all that mud in the laundry room ;)

Spidey is going to find sand in places he hadn't thought of in years.  The layout is strong with Spidey in center focus, but he's overwhelmingly out muscled in scale here!

An amazingly beautiful action oriented Spidey cover. The matchup between Sandman and Hydro-Man always seemed destined to be. Also really cool to see such an early cover inking job by Hennessy!

Always a delight when Nauck gets to draw Spidey.  Todd's style always brings a fun energy to the proceedings.

I almos tthought Scherberger, and that's good thing.  So cool seeing this early Todd piece, with Spidey vs 2 classic baddies!  Tons of great detail throughout and love how he positioned all 3 characters.
