A perfect match of artist and subject. Bertram does fantastic commissions but it's hard to imagine him topping this one.
Unreal line work, whew. includes the centrail figure as well as the surroundings...must look that much better in person beinn on a 20x30 board! Bertram really outdid himself here. Congrats!
Okay, I really hated how the voice actors pronounced her name as "Oska". But that aside, this is a phenomenal illustration. I really loved the characters in this series and now that I've watched it, it allows me to appreciate your Neon Genesis Evangelion pieces you have even more than I previously did. Congrats, man!
Thrilled to hear you saw it and enjoyed it, Ruben!
Wall Power Realized! It will project it's power upon you for years to come!
Holy Hell!
Wow! This must be absolutely amazing in person.
Yeah, I told you I would! I saw the entire 26 episode series, plus the first follow-up movie. While I found some of the story elements confusing, I did enjoy it and what I actually loved was the characterization. I really loved all the characters! I'm glad I was always fascinated by your avatar and that I thought to ask you about it during our Show & Tell, so thanks for suggesting I check it out!
Fantastic! The movie was Death & Rebirth or End of Evangelion?
End of Evangelion. I'm a "completist", so I figured I'd get to all the movies in order. Unfortunately, this film was so weird and heavy on the religious/spiritual tip, that I didn't enjoy it and time constraints led to me not watchign the others (yet, anyway).
Yes. It gets crazy. It's basically what's happening during the last couple of episodes.
This is THE Eva commission and couldn't be happier it's in your awesome collection! Huge congrats!
Love the pose, mood, textures, and composition of this unique Bertram piece! Fantastic!
Yowza!
Absolutely fantastic! So much to look at and get absorbed into.
No words can accurately describe this! must be amazing to behold in person!
There's a lot mixed into this triumphant work. Family, innocence, responsibility, agency, loss, hope.
Ah yes. Great point. Love of the subject brings so much added context.
Astonishing!
Epic Bertram wall power!!! A sincerely impressive piece. Huge congrats!
ソッカマジー!
Truly an inspired commission.
Wow...that is absolutely mind-blowing! Huge thanks for sharing this thing of beauty!
Commission results like this reminds us all why we do them, even through the occasional miss.
One of the best Bertram commissions out there! Very cool that he went into the extra effort to get familiar with the content.
Thanks, Tim. So happy with it but now I risk being disappointed with all future commissions.
This is a really interesting take. While Evangelion could be dark, the designs were sleek. This is tinged with gritty horror and reminds me of the "kyoshinhei", the Giant God Warriors, from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.
Totally see it and someone else has mentioned that before. Ian's takes definitely lean more towards the horror end.
Wow--this is just jawdroppingly good! I love Ian Bertram's work and this illustration is one of the best pieces of his that I've seen! I love the design of the art with the crazy cool psychedelic border treatment surrounding the the strangely shaped central character. I'm complete blown away by this piece! Congrats!
Completely in love with this one!
Stunning !
A scan just can't do this masterpiece justice.
