What a beauty! Cover to Ladies’ Home Journal (October 1932), by illustrator royalty, John LaGatta, and a perfect example of his artistic genius. LaGatta was brilliant, and at the height of his career (when he painted this cover), he was as well known as any illustrator out there. LaGatta was best known for painting sophisticated women, and this cover is a prime example. Love the color palette and the expressiveness of the model. Fantastic stuff. Oil on board over charcoal (27” x 20”).

I would have never guessed oils for the media. The technique is eye appealing as is the subject of the painting. Thanks for posting this, a new fan for this artist.

Jeez, that is fantastic, Ben! LaGatta made it look so damn easy. Gorgeous work. I remember when Roy Crane had a LaGatta reference in "Wash Tubbs".
