Morris Scott Dollens - science fiction spaceport scene

This past Sunday, we picked up several SF paintings, including this one by artist Morris Scott Dollens. Dollens did have a few professional cover appearances on SF mags in the 1950's, but was also very active in fanzines and in displaying his art at SF conventions. He became very well known for his astronomical and planetary landscape paintings that he displayed at those cons.

This painting is one of 40 paintings that the 1955 Worldcon -- Clevention, as it was held in Cleveland -- commissioned him to do. They were utilized as the backdrop for the speaker's rostrum at the con, and then were auctioned off at the con's auction. I'll also post a photo from Clevention which shows this painting as one of those in the backdrop.
