OLIFF / WRIGHTSON - "The Black Cat" grayline production art (Pacific Comics, 1983)

This sweetie is the overlay hand-colored by Steve Oliff to page 5 of “Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat” in Pacific Comics's *Berni Wrightson, Master of the Macabre* #1 (June 1983), way before the time of laser coloring.

Here is the technical description of this piece by Steve himself: "What you own is a Grayline, which is the actual color that they shot the film from. Real color guides are a pre-production step that never see print. The Grayline was an attempt at a cheaper version of the classic European Blueline color system. They were made on stats at print size so they could gang 4 pages up on a drum scanner, as opposed to shooting each page on a flatbed scanner. That's why sometimes the colors would get out of balance. They couldn't adjust the individual pages, so they'd go for an average that sometimes worked, and sometimes didn't."
