DescriptionI love when these two characters banter and so this page is perfect to me.In the original Robert Howard stories, Shadizar the capitol city of Zamora, is mentioned but none of the stories are set there, so it looms darkly in the imagination (Conan visits some forsaken places but Shadizar is supposed to be even worse!) This strip was drawn when Ernie Chan first took over the Conan the Barbarian newspaper strips. It is documented that the first batch of strips that he created used ink wash and duotone techniques that did not transfer well to the newspaper medium, so he had to redraw them all in a more simplified style. Somewhere in the world is a twin of these three panels that uses different inking/shading techniques. I would love to see it. Dated '10-30 Mon' on the strip and originally published in 1978. Mr Chan added his signature in 2009. n.b. A keen eye will spot the word 'sexy' written in blue pencil leading to a circle around the dancer's chest (where Conan is gazing). Really boys?! Chan tells a lot of story in just three panels. It's tremendous how he uses the duo tones to create such a rich environment and for Conan and Sonja to stand out from it. World building and character building that is cleverly using the medium to its fullest.

I agree with you. I particularly enjoy how the broad chest of Conan pops out in the last panel because there is no shading. It puts a spotlight on him during the joke.

Excellent example of this great strip.
I agree and and I wasted no time in displaying it in my home.
