Malachi Ward - Black Hammer: The End commission

I've been reading Black Hammer by Jeff Lemire since it launched 10 years ago and I love the series, a brilliant homage to the world of comics using existing tropes and well-worn comic-isms to tell new, thoughtful, and sensitive stories in the classic way Lemire always does.

Malachi Ward was tasked with landing the plane, taking over artwork for the past couple years and ending with the aptly titled Black Hammer: The End. It was a masterpiece. I met him at C2E2 2024 in Chicago and asked if he would do a Black Hammer: The End commission for me and he said he could include a few other characters in the background - I said "artist's choice" and of course he slayed. I mean I cannot believe he completed this in a day! The detail in person - on the hair, the various methods he used, and of course ... bricks.
