Another Castle banger joins the crew!

I've wanted one of Philip Castle's 'Chrome Angels' for a long time...and now here it is, in all its airbrushed glory! With a background of an English rose, our Chrome Angel soars into the blue, green fields below, accompanied by a Convair B-58 Hustler, that most hod-rod of US cold war bombers (and a personal favourite). Bravo!

Picture is dated 1981, and was published in Castle's 'Airflow' (Paper Tiger, 1981), I'm assuming that the dating is for the exhibition and sale with Francis Kyle Gallery, London. It is also the frontispiece for 1989's 'Airshow', with a double page spread pp 132-33.

Philip Castle is the key British illustrator of the 1970s and 80s, working with Stanly Kubrick (A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket), David Bowie (Aladdin Sane), Paul McCartney & Wings and his airbrush fashion and glamour spreads in Vogue and men's magazines. The British Bob Peak, if you like; so much so, that Pulp brought him out of retirement for the cover of 1994's 'His'n'Hers'.
