Description
Sonic The Comic #123 Pg. 8
Pencils & Inks by Richard Elson
Coloring by Nigel Kitching
Written by Nigel Kitching

This is the first of 2 "Sonic The Comic" (series published by Egmont Fleetway Publications in the UK) pages I picked up awhile ago in the same deal. Pencil and Ink art and colors on the same board (with overlay for text/word bubbles and that publisher note B6 on the piece of tape which I left as is). From issue 123, released in Feb 1998.

While this page doesn't feature the main character of Sonic or his sidekicks/team such as Tails or Knuckles (the next page from the series I picked up does though so stay tuned for that one), it does feature CHAOS EMERALDS which is a major item that you collect in the games and generally a trope/theme of the Sonic The Hedgehog videogames, which I've been a big fan of ever since I was kid, starting with the first Sonic The Hedgehog game on the Sega Genesis.

The setting is located on the "Floating Island". Sonic and Tails were "dealt with" and two Prosecutors and two Sentinels enter the tunnel while the other Sentinels remain behind to deal with the Guardian Robot on the previous pages. On this page we see the four invaders locate the Emerald Chamber containing the Chaos Emeralds, with which the Drakon Empire will rule the galaxy.

Fun scene here, man, starting with that big splashy panel up top paired with the downward perspective.  But what takes it over the top are the colors...sublimed applied.  Congrats!

I'll admit to not being super knowledgeable about Sonic, beyond character recognizion. Love that this is in color and the designs of these characters remind me a bit of Ninjago. Congrats!

Take me to the Emerald City
Down yellow brick roads Sonic runs
Knuckles friends Tails dance beside me
Hedgehog brothers, bright Elson

Take me to the Emerald City
Drakons will give us Sega games
It's a land of ancient history
Ruling chaos never fades

Very cool! So the overlay is the word balloons?

yea exactly. the only thing on the overlay is the white word balloons and text, and that piece of tape that says B6 which i assume is a publishing note for the printer or something - thats how i got it so i left it on there as is.

I've never heard of either of these two artists, but I quite like their cartoony stlings which seems perfectly suited to a video game property like Sonic.

Are the Chaos Emeralds akin to Infinity Stones?  How is it possible that no one has asked you that yet?  Lol.  Really pretty page, and I love those character in the bottom panels.

Amazing looking piece. I always played sonic on the Genesis but never followed the story. I had to look up the chaos emeralds since it reminded me of the infinity stones.
