Vlatna's surviving head intends to use the life force of his victims to regenerate a whole body:
“I don't get it… He's in pieces.”
“But that doesn't stop him from bleeding! The blood of the prisoners that is flowing towards him is giving him strength again. We must destroy those horrible blood vessels!” (Hobbes, Brand, and Sylvaine hang suspended in the blood web.)
“Let's get to work, guys!”
(Tesla frees Brand) “You're… saving me again… I don't know how to thank you.”
“There is one thing, blondie. I'll explain it to you outside of here, when you've recovered a bit.”
(Vance to Vlatna) “Master! I can't stop them alone!”
“I don't expect the impossible from you, Vance. My creatures will take care of them! They've already dealt with Draka's undead, and now they'll attend to the Dampyr and his companions.”
(Tesla frees Sylvaine as Kurjak shoots werewolves.) “Harlan! They're almost upon us… and I only have one clip!”
“Hold them off as best you can, Kurjak. I have to find the heart… the heart of Vlatna!”
“That's well hidden, Dampyr! Your efforts are in vain! The veins and arteries of this new body of mine are everywhere. You won't be able to destroy them all before you die! And then, I will triumph. By dawn tomorrow I will have my old body back… and not even your father Draka will be able to stop me!”
“They won't stop! They won't stop! Nina, Hobbes! Get out of here!”
Way back on page 28, Mihail and Vlad Tepes ambushed Vance. We assumed that meant that he was on Draka's team, whether vampirized, hypnotized, or simply persuaded. But apparently at some point Vance fell under the control of Draka's rival, Vlatna.
We last saw Brand and Sylvaine in the Countess' torture chamber. It's not clear whether that was a physical location from which they were moved to here, or whether that torture room only existed in their minds as Vlatna sucked their life force in his blood web.
