Description
Here is the last thing I bought at #oax2025 … and I really tried to talk myself out of it.. modern artist I said… not he costume I prefer I said .. book I’ve never read I said.. bought enough art I said… even dragged over a couple of my friends to see it .: and both of them told me I was an idiot to even be thinking about not buying it! And they were right… it’s beautiful. The scan doesn’t do it justice .. it just can’t capture the colors . Justine just did a magnificent job creating a softness to the character who is usually known for a chaotic fire.. Jeans features and eyes are so emotive. And back to that color.. wow.. the way she pulls all of the hues together is breathtaking … the cover for a current issue of the Phoenix comic.. by an artist who I think will explode now that she is doing marvel covers…. Thank you Lambo and Erica for letting me know I was being silly about trying to not buy it!

The pieces you can't talk yourself out from wind up being the best.  Congrats on another great cover!

A very clever take on a character we often see shown in such a repetitive way. We have come to anticipate the exact pose associated with the Phoenix Force. This one breaks the rules and conveys immense power in such a refeshing and powerful way.

So glad it landed in the proper collection! This piece needs to travel with you in the future for sharing with us all in person one day. Kin Wong has a Frany and the impact of the colors are not possible in any scan. This has to be the same.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing it here!

What's not to like? This is an extraordinary cover for Phoenix #7 by Justine Frany. First of all, I love Justine's unique take on the Phoenix. How clever to have the wings of the Phoenix on her costume explode with the power of the Phoenix. I love the way her hair ripples from the power of the force blowing past her face. And I love how the Phoenix force appears to be the dominent light source for the piece, underlighting her face and hair as well as lighting up her torso. Finally, I love Justine's color choices here. The deep blue background which contrasts so elegantly with her orange/red hair and the yellow of the force itself. It's a splendid painting and a powerful cover and it belongs in your collection, just like everyone told you. Great pick-up, Jason, congrats!

I was about to leave a comment on this, then skimmed and saw that Lee dropped my name into the conversation.  Anyways, congrats on getting a Frany!  Her colors are amazing to behold in person, and I can only imagine how this looks (especially with all the dark and light shades).  And there's something about how she does eyes that always gets me (and she did it here as well).

For the record, since you ask me for Phoenix related pieces, I showed you first :) Thanks for listening to Lambo and Erica. Most importantly, thank you for supporting Frany! :) :) :)

You definitely made the right decision. I recently discovered Frany's work and was blown away by the beauty of her paintings. That was enough for me to buy one of the covers posted for sale.

As a fellow owner of a Frany cover (especially after seeing her "making of" video showing her process) I am glad you got this piece. Her work is outstanding and if there is any Next Comic Art member who's underappreciated it's Frany. I agree, her career is blowing up and people will look back and wish they'd gotten more of her stuff early on. Such a suberb talent.
