Description

This bimonthly but double-length series provided a springboard to rising artists like Geof Isherwood and Marc Silvestri. In a backup story featuring Conn, son of Conan, this page introduces an unnamed wealthy merchant who counsels his grandson about the importance of generosity and a humanitarian spirit. Unfortunately, when he climbs the tower to his treasure room he finds Conn and another thief shoveling gold into bags. The other thief kills the old man and flees, leaving Conn to take the blame.

Silvestri has exactly six panels on this page to set the scene and introduce both the old man and his grandson before things go horribly wrong. Details like the moon on the lake and the roaring fire put us at ease, while the large tower on the house helps us understand the layout before tragedy unfolds.

Pretty nice tall panel as the exterior shot table setter.  Looks like the Silvestri storytelling is already there and he works the rougher edges to make the barbarian tale closer to the Conan magazine style.

great early Silvestri work! that first scene setting panel from the exterior especially gives the feel of bronze age horror/mystery
