Description
Top Cat was a Hanna-Barbera show that only aired one season during an evening time slot but was on for years after they put it on Saturday mornings. And whenever a H-B show comes on with characters from their library, you can almost always count on seeing Top Cat. So it must have been popular with other kids but not enough to create more seasons I guess.

Top Cat (aka: TC) was the leader of a bunch of street cats named Benny the Ball, Brain, Choo-Choo, Fancy-Fancy, and Spook. Their regular foil was Officer Dibble who always tried to bust up their scheme.

Like so many cartoons (and even television shows) back in the early days, the theme song was catchy and did a bit of show description. Here's Top Cat's:

Top Cat, the most effectual
Top Cat, whose intellectual
Close friends get to call him T.C.
Providing it's with dignity

Top Cat
The indisputable leader of the gang
He's the boss, he's the pip
He's the championship
He's the most tip top
Top Cat

Yes he's the chief, he's the king
But above everything
He's the most tip top
Top Cat

I didn't realize he was only around for one season because they played his cartoons in syndication for years.  The memorable part about it was the song opening and setting up that he's just a scamming alley cat.  A bit too sophisticated for the kid audience without the broad comedy of other cartoons.
