DescriptionAs this now my third piece from/by Jester, I’m probably repeating myself. But what initially drew me to his work was this wonderfully combined balance of sexy and playful fun that he imbues on all of his creations. Again, I’m not particularly a cheesecake or Good Girl art collector, but I enjoy and appreciate the genre. Where I do become emotionally invested is when I see that needle move more from its traditional eroticism and/or sensuality to something with (at the very least) equal parts glee and mirth.
At the same time, he also can’t really ignore the character’s history. What does the character represent? Is it an iconic or revered institutional property? Who is the character’s target audience? Which brings us to Walt Disney’s Tinkerbell. Is it possible to make Tink sexy and hot? Of course! (And I’m sure worse has been done to her with AI and CG.) But I’d like to think that most artists would be respectful of any legacy figures. Especially in the case of family friendly characters. Which brings us back to Tinkerbell. When I saw this piece come up for sale, I loved it immediately. Not just because I’m a huge Disney fan. But I really loved how Jester handled it. Yes, he took some liberties with the costume. But even if you wanted to accuse him of just wanting to show more skin, the T&A factor on this figure is really non-existent. No giant boobs and no ass hanging out. What he did give her (with that “what the hell are YOU looking at” pose and facial expression) is a serious amount of attitude. And honestly, that is my absolute favorite thing about this piece. I really, really, really, love it! In looking at this image, I couldn’t help but make up my own backstory to add to the fun. It’s more than 70 years later (from the movie, not the book) and Disney tells Tinkerbell that they’re giving her a new updated costume. She takes one look at the new outfit and says, OH HELL NO! But she puts in on anyway because she knows if she doesn’t, they’ll just get someone else to wear it. And this shot is her standing there with the new look hating every second of it. Haha! Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Social/Sharing |

nice Tinkerbell illustration by Jester! his work is enjoyable to look at from the stuff I've seen posted to CAF in varying degrees but this is one of my favorites due to the character and it being slightly more reserved than some others I've seen, which also makes sense for the character. Playful and a little sexy but not over the top. It kinda reminds me of something I'd see in Brian K Vaughan/Fiona Staples Saga book (but without the rated M for Mature elements that might happen from time to time). good choice especially the character (that's coming from a guy that has Tinkerbell related pieces from Bill Sienkiewicz and Fred Hembeck lol)

Well, if you take a break from your Hembeck hoarding, you should be able to score a Jester piece pretty easily. Ha! Seriously though, he posts new pieces pretty regularly. Maybe not quite as prolific as Fred, but he usually has a couple of new pieces up every week or so. Just tear yourself away from monitoring Fred's eBay page 24/7 and you can have your own Jester piece in no time. Thanks for the comment buddy!

And I love the backstory you came up with to explain her attitude and pose!

When you mentioned you had picked up a second Jester piece, this is what I thought it would be. I can't recall if this is the same Tinkerbell piece that was up for auction less than a year ago (I feel like he did a couple over the past year), but love the attitude in her expression here. Congrats on the pickup!
