Description

This is one of my all time favorite paintings by Daniel Keys, my favorite living still life painter. The color isn't quite as over the top as some of his other world beater paintings, but it is so lifelike. I absolutely love this full value tour de force, with its complex and somehow perfect composition. The way he subtly indicated the intricacies of each flower is amazing.

It was featured prominently in Art of the West Magazine, Sep/Oct 2014, and I think it's seen print elsewhere but my memory is poor...

Same bed but it feels just a little bit bigger now
Daniel in the frame at show but I don't smell the paint
When our friends talk about you, all roses and just lilies now
'Cause my art breaks a little when I hear your pain

It all just smells like oooooh…
Mmm, too young, too dumb to realize
That I could've bouquet flowers
And be your fan
Should've gave you all my dollars
When I had the chance
Take you gallery party
'Cause oil I wanted to have was chance
Now my lilies dancing
But Keys dancing with another fan

A beautiful painting! The composition is intricate but never feels cluttered, and the balance of color and light gives it a natural, effortless quality. Keys' ability to suggest detail while keeping the brushwork loose is really impressive. Kudos, Artless!
