This piece was done several years before the Sandman TV show arrived on Netflix, and yet I see so much of Tom Sturridge in this rendition of Morpheus. Or maybe Tom Sturridge was always the right choice for me, having had this piece in my mind for so long. Hampton’s mastery of that facial expression almost seems to show the weight of Dream’s tragedies and sins throughout his millennia-spanning life.
