Description

This is the original cover painting for the 1st novel in the continuation of the Mortymer Saga - a series portraying the turbulent history of early industrial Wales - that Cordell began in 1959 with the novel "Rape of the Fair Country" (also illustrated by Pether). This book, "Beloved Exile", was the beginning of another trilogy which continued the Saga into the 1990s, and was published by Piatkus, 1992 (I show the published cover for reference) Beautifully painted in gouache and acrylic on illustration board, c. 11" x 15.5" and is signed and dated 1991. The art comes with a label attesting to its authenticity signed by Pether's widow, mounted to the back.
