Description
While going through the Heritage Auctions, this caught my eye and I knew I wanted to add it to the portfolio. Beautifully illustrated by Ariel Olivetti with script by Jeph Loeb, this page captures the Man of Steel in one of his most iconic moments — soaring high above the city, cape billowing, with his signature stoic resolve.

Titled “What Can One Icon Do?”, the page explores the broader question of Superman’s impact in a the world. The overhead perspective is absolutely striking, giving a near bird’s-eye view of what appears to be Central Park, (even though it's supposed to Metropolis) with meticulous linework in the trees and skyline that puts the focus on Superman’s flight headed toward the reader.

The panel features a memorable line:

“...It’s about the work you do in between.”

It’s the perfect summary of what makes Superman endure as a character, his tireless commitment, not just in world-shaking battles, but in the moments that define his character day in and day out. On a personal level for anyone, it is not about what anyone does in the big moments but about all the work they do in the little ones.

As a title page, I like how it name drops Siegel and Shuster as the creators.

Our view from high above the city shows that you can believe a man can fly with Olivetti's confident and strong lines for Superman!  This is the kind of splash that should be accompanied by the orchestral music.
