DescriptionDeb and I went to PulpFest last week and had the usual great time. Many thanks to Mike Chomko, Jack Cullers, Bill Lampkin and the rest of their hardworking crew for all the work they do to put on an amazing convention. It was great catching up with old friends, and making new ones. And, of course, perusing the large dealer room full of goodies. In addition to several pulps, we managed to add a few more pieces of art to our collection. Here's one of those. By artist Virgil Finlay, this appeared in the September 1937 issue of Weird Tales, illustrating the story, "The Ho-Ho Kam Horror" by Bruce Bryan. Unfortunately, it does have one flaw near the middle of the illo, where I suspect someone pulled the illo out of a bag long ago without removing the tape, resulting in a tape pull which is poorly repaired. We'll take it in for restoration; it should be an easy repair. Social/Sharing |

That's a really fantastic looking beastie by Finlay! Great pick up Doug!

The hatching, the stippling, the subject matter of magic and occult are all so tenaciously approached as this had more realism and high definition than what a photo of the day could show.

The sheer number of different textures in this one single piece is absolutely outstanding!

That repair is terrible. Jesus, please us. They were too lazy to even track down a printed version of the illustration and then half heartedly 'fixed' it. The Horror. At least it is fixable horror. Some people...Enough ranting. Lovely early Finlay.

Sweet art - I especially like that the pottery in the upper corners reflects the action!
