The shadows produce sharp contrast to accompany the tense scene. Great stuff.

Iconic image and likely Jones's most important mainstream comic work.

My favorite Jones piece and one of the top-5 covers from DC's Bronze Age in my opinion. A simply sublime piece of comic art - I had a feeling that it would end up in your collection, congrats!!

As a Marvel-only guy I have no context about this piece but I can see that it is stunning artistically. Museum quality

So out of place with the Golden Age art. 😉 All kidding aside, incredible cover art. Thanks for sharing!

Some glorious gothic 70's imagery! One of the most recognized Jones works. Who can refuse?

I'd heard in the 80s that lot of JCJ's work was supposedly severely damaged, so I'm very happy to see that this survived. This era of Wonder Woman (perhaps because of low circulation) was allowed to experiment in way not possible today. Those Jones covers were dark fantasy masterpieces even if they lacked any connection to the interiors, but the stories within them are quite unconventional as well.
Beautiful piece.

comic art, fine art, hard to tell. Wonderful cover. The tilt of the eye of the executioner really gets me.

You win the internet today. A landmark piece. As I understand it, Jones submitted the piece, and then Sekowsky figured out how to write a story around it.
