Description
A cover my wife is guaranteed to hate with the inclusion of creepy killer clowns, but a nice bit of comic nostalgia for me. As a kid who started collecting comics in 1990, most of the back issues I picked up were Batman titles. Thanks to a local comic shop I was able to put together nearly a complete run of Batman and Detective Comics from the '70s - '90s and all the covers were burned into my brain. Although many of the issues and storylines from the early '80s seem to be forgotten by most, I still have fond memories of them and Detective Comics #531 is no exception. I'm quite happy to be able to add this cover as wacky and creepy as it is.

**NOTE** I framed this one and hung it in my art room without telling my wife. We'll see how much time goes by before she notices the killer clowns in plain sight. Right now we're at 2 weeks and counting.

At least they are not killer clowns from outer space.  But they make a cool cover!

Memorable cover with the design of the logo under the spotlight without seeing Batman face the audience.  Colan stories of the time delved into the dark symbolism of the Dark Knight Detective.  The clowns make their next appearance in the opening sequence of Batman Returns.

Giordano wasn't clowning around with those inks ;-)

Yeah, this one won't hang in the kitchen, but still, what a killer cover!

Don't let killer clowns get you down, Batman is here to turn their creepy smiles into maniacal frowns!

A Tec cover perfect for the October spooky season! But let's not proceed without reason. Will your wife realize it's on the wall before the month is out!? The only thing we know, is there may be a little bit of a shout!

Awesome cover, congrats man!

If I were Batman, I would be reconsidering my firearms policy.

Very cool piece with the logo and the shadow on it giving it some nice depth.  The Joker will be very jealous those three clowns are stealing his shtick.

One of the coolest logos in comics. Great classic cover and may it go unnoticed on the wall for many moons.

Nothing at all. In fact I think the next CAF t-shirt could use a few killer clowns. Just sayin'.

Sure, but will Bill put in his site? That's the question. Cheers!

Two weeks and counting? Only two possibilities. She has no interest in comic art and ignores what you have on the wall or she is unobservant. Tell her on Halloween night if she does not notice by then.

Peter I think it's a combination of your first guess coupled with the fact that I took down another piece and hung this one in the exact same spot.  Most of my art is also framed and matted pretty much the same way with all black so I think it's going to take her quite a while (if ever) to figure out that a piece of art has changed. Perhaps it's for the better.

The real world is a harsh awakening for many new clown college graduates. It's rough on the streets. Congrats, and keep us posted on wife-watch.

Killer clowns v Batman = killer Tec cover. So good! I am thinking it will last 30 days on the wall, max but that doesn't mean it isn't wall worthy. Great cover!
