DescriptionWell...this one is special to me.There are 3 reasons I collect comic art: 1) Personal Nostalgia 2) Beautiful Imagery 3) Historic Importance (If I were to be completely honest, I'd add in a number 4 where I talk about possible future value, but that's gauche, so it's verboten here!) Most of the pages I own in my relatively small collection satisfy numbers 1 and 2 above and that's always made me very happy. It's not often I've gotten the chance at number 3, and when I have, it's usually made impossible by going up against the big guns in the hobby. I really believe this cover satisfies all 3. I first held this cover in hand in 2018...and when I did, the owner (who's become a friend that I chat with often and who's advised me plenty) promised that one day he'd sell it to me. 7 years later and it's in my collection. (It's good I had 7 years because it took that amount of saving up!). A promise kept by one of the best men I know. It's surreal to own a cover that I've seen a thousand times on walls of comic dealers and in Wizard magazines. It's here! The original is here in my collection! I can't believe it still. Insofar as the cover itself, Sal Buscema knocked it out of the park. Grand Comics Database says that Cockrum and Romita had a part in it; who knows. But it doesn't really matter to me. I love it and I'm OVERJOYED to own it. Now the question is, as a collector, where the heck do I go from here? (A cardboard box on the street?) Social/Sharing |

All 3 boxes checked! (invisible 4th box also checked subjectively!). Dude, epic does not even fit but that's what I got. EPIC! The third X-Men cover after the relaunch of the title - history! huge congrats and enjoy the view from the cardboard box seats!

I had a feeling something big was comming your way and boy did it and really it dosen't get much better than this cover ! An outstanding example of marvel greatness and sometimes if you wait long enough dreams do come true ! I'm so happy for you fish and the wonderful friend that helped this dream come true,I know the feeling,congrats Man !

I am stunned! Such a crown jewel! I loved loved loved this cover when it came out. And what a stupendous cover it is for a number of reasons, including as you say historical significance. Huge Congratulations!

Levels 1-4 unlocked in one gigantic swoop of an acquisition. Early Sal covers are so adored (by myself, at least) as he rarely did them by the time he got to my favorite art of his on the Hulk run - this is an astoundingly great example of his cover work. I Love hearing the acquisition story as well - stories like this are such a welcome distraction from how these type of pieces normally change hands these days. Hearty congratulations!!

Jaw meet floor! This was the first New X-men cover I saw. 2 issues and a giant size disappeared from the UK. I loved my dogeared pence copy gotten from the news agent.

You're right! This is a historic cover! It's the comic where the Night Demon destroyed the X-Men were destroyed and never heard from again. Then it saw the rise the pop culture fixture that is Night Demon!

Well now what can I say here that I havent already said to you.. you know I love this cover.. and Im SO happy you got it.. but there are couple things I would have included if I was writing this up.. 1) dont discount this book has a major first appearance.. this is the debut appearance of Moira Mctaggert a long and integral part of X-men lore 2) this is also the first cover appearance of wolverine on the main X-men title and also one of very few to feature him in the early run 3) Sal X-men art is a rarity .. and Cockrum and Romita also touching it?? Combo platter of bronze marvel royalty!

You have one of the best CAFs in the world. If your CAF is relatively small, the rest are tiny. Everything you have is tasteful, stylish, and full of personality, and this cover is no exception.

Truly impressive to say the very least. Only three "new" X-Men covers were done before this one. Giant-Size #1, X-Men #94 and #95. I would say this one checks EVERY box, and not just the cardboard one you're living in. But it's certainly worth it. And don't sweat that one too much. I'm sure many of us on CAF would be happy to stop by and drop off some food for you (but you're on your own with the plumbing issues). Congrats on this epic score.
