Description

Long before the likes of Brad Pitt and George Clooney, Robert Redford was Hollywood’s original pretty boy. I don’t know enough to surmise that this got in the way of him being taken seriously as an actor. But even with his distinguished list of credits, he probably would not be mentioned in the same breath as Brando, DeNiro, Pacino, or Nicholson. Be that as it may, he is every bit as much a Hollywood legend as those acting titans. For us comic geek movie nerds, he was Alexander Pierce in Captain America, Winter Soldier and Avengers Endgame (his final onscreen appearance). But outside the MCU, there’s a tremendous body of work. The list of great films include All The President’s Men, Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, The Candidate, Downhill Racer, The Sting, The Way We Were, Three Days of the Condor, Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here, Jeremiah Johnson, Barefoot in the Park, Inside Daisy Clover, Indecent Proposal, Brubaker, The Great Gatsby, The Electric Horseman, and so many others. Including two of my personal favorites, Sneakers and The Natural. It might be argued that he was even more talented behind the camera. His Directing achievements include A River Runs Through It, The Milagro Beanfield War, and The Horse Whisperer. In 1980, his film Ordinary People won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. His name is probably most synonymous with The Sundance Film Institute and its world-renowned film festival. Robert Redford was 89 years old. Heartfelt condolences to his family and loving gratitude for his timeless legacy of film work.
