I like that CAF has really evolved to just Art fans, cause in the end it is all art anyway. I can see why you were attracted to this one but others not. The bold shapes are like an ink drawing, and it has a bit of a crudeness to the painting (not a bad thing and probably what makes it devisive, but it adds to the charm) and it is all about that eye. I also like the little nicks in the hat. Congrats!
1917? Alan Moore is older than we thought.
From Buenos Aires to Casa Singh! Cool find, Stink Eye is such a term of endearment too. I've yet to land my own foreign country antique shop fine art find, challlenge accepted lol ;)
Okay, just stop with the apologies already. As you know, I've not only posted non-comics related original art on CAF for 18 years now, I even opened a completely separate 2nd gallery to showcase them in! In the ensuing years, there have been users, such as "artless artmore" for instance, who have been posting fine art to their galleries.
While I would draw the line at allowing someone who is NOT a comic art collector to open a gallery and fill it with nothing but or primarily with fine art, I really believe that it's perfectly acceptable to post other forms of art in galleries when the people posting it are already comic art collectors who have posted comic art before. In fact, it enriches the website and the community at large, because this type of art is simply an extension of that comic art collector's tastes and it allows everyone to get an even better sense of the broader tastes in art some of the collectors in our community have, and that can only be a good thing.
Sorry? We are Canadian, we can't help ourselves.
Of course fine art ties in with comic art and it is all art but I also know that the site admin does not want non-comic art related pieces posted as it takes up bandwidth and clutters things. There is art I really want to share an will continue to do so but will make them few and far between.
We certainly are a polite and friendly people, I'm proud to say!
Unless things have changed, even Bill has said that when a couple of guys complained about non-comic art being posted, he himself told them that he was okay with it. Now, maybe that was non-comics illustration art, which admittedly is much more adjacent to comic art than fine art is. But as I mentioned, I think that it should be acceptable if it's comic art art collectors with already existing galleries filled with comic art who are simply adding folders to also have a place to show some of the other types of art they collect. The only thing I would personally have an issue with is the example I already stated, where someone who isn't even a gallery owner and isn't a comic art collector, just finds CAF and decides they will open a gallery to post their fine art. I personally would not allow that. But already established comic art collectors with already established CAF galleries? Not only do I have zero issues with them adding other forms of art they collect, I actually find it fun to find out that they have broader artistic interests besides comic art.
Anyway, if the admin have a problem with your fine art painting of an Argentinian Hasidic Jew, I'm sure they'll let you know.
Polite ?!?!
You swear and profane so much it's a wonder you are still allowed on Youtube ! xD
Great magician Alan Moore indeed, but someone should tell him to set his hat properly? ;)
That was my thought as well, and a lovely story of acquisition too. I love it Jeff!
I've never been to Argentina but if all goes to plan we aim to be there in 2027....
