I have always enjoyed Colan’s pencil work. When I was younger, I used to make copies of his pencil work to practice inking. Looking back on it now, I think I did a fair job on it.

Very fun pencil page! It shows that Colan had all that pencil shading that made inking more about expessing the story tone than selecting the right line.

Tom Palmer once claimed, Colan was the most challenging penciler he ever had to work with, and for good reason. Colan's work looks simple enough to ink until you try to ink it.
