“Close to You” By Ania Tomicka

When I saw Ania Tomicka’s stunning “Close to You” pop up on eBay I simply couldn’t help but bid on her. I’ve always loved Ania’s beautiful art and especially her older style. This was such a wonderful example of that beautiful style and the playfulness she created during that time period of her art.

This lovely drawing was created in September 2013 for her show A Matter of Time held at Swoon Gallery in LA. When I saw this piece on eBay I immediately remembered it. I couldn’t remember where I had seen it but it was definitely a piece of Ania’s that I remembered. I’m sure I had seen her in the preview from the show back when Ally had sent it to me and loved it at the time but just hadn’t purchased it. Oh how I miss Ally and her wonderful little gallery. I didn’t always purchase pieces but she put on some wonderful shows with lots of my favorite artists. Miss receiving her preview emails for new shows. Deeply miss her in the art community. She was one of the best and it was always such a pleasure working with her. Anyway I’m absolutely thrilled this beauty made her way to me after all this time and even happier to know it was one of the pieces that passed through Ally’s hands and her gallery.

I absolutely adore this piece. She is just so cute with her beautiful red hair and adorable freckles. Also love the whimsy to the piece as we see her little friends close by her. Just such a wonderful piece by this amazing artist and one I’m thrilled to have in my collection.
