Pride of Baghdad is a beautiful book. One of those standalone hardbacks that sits on the shelf and looks a bit like an illustrated children's book, certainly one you can read in a sitting, but is poignant and beautifully illustrated.

Niko illustrates the Iraq land and city scapes and the animals in an almost Disney like quality and style to tell the Brian K Vaughn written tale of Zoo animals set loose by bombing during the US invasion of Iraq.

The story follows three lions as they are free for the first time in the human world, and yet it's war torn. This page jumped out at me as it has our main characters, and you see their emotive expressions as they grapple with this. In this scene finding a still body for the first time and not right away understanding.
