“Sketch of the Night Flowers” by Jana Brike

For the month of October Jana Brike did what she called a sketch a day series for the entire month. Each day she used a series of prompts from other people that she said were “strangely unexpectedly inspiring” to her last year. When I think of a sketch I think of quick drawings but for this series she did full on miniature oil paintings. Of course they weren’t as polished as her actual fully rendered paintings but still incredibly beautiful. As with all of her October series I knew she was going to listing them in her shop at some point so Ieft her website pulled up on my phone to routinely check to see if the had been listed. Of course the one day I didn’t check soon enough she ended up listing them and I missed the one that I had wanted the most. When I saw them only a couple had sold since her newsletter hadn’t been sent out yet so I was able to get another one of them that had caught my eye. Needless to say I was still very pleased.

“Night Flower” was the day 15 prompt from Léa l'Amiette‘s list she had shared for Inktober this year. When Jana shared the piece she said “She doesn’t like eyes on her, she blooms in the silence and quiet of a night. Sometimes they bloom together, like a little garden in harmonic beauty. ”

To me this is just a classic Jana piece. You have two lovely ladies in a beautiful embrace and they are surrounded by a beautifully moody background. A simple yet wonderfully painted concept that immediately called to me when I saw it. To me a simple concept like this is just pure magic when in the right hands. Of course Jana is one of those artists. Her style shines beautifully in such a piece as this. So happy to have this gorgeous piece by this phenomenal artist in my collection.
