DescriptionComic Art Live Fall 2025 Mystery Sketch! The Prompt: "Your favorite Astro City character" I think we all know the drill by now. I like to ask which ever mystery artist gets my requests to draw an Astro City character. So far I have asked for this prompt 5 times and I have received 5 different characters from 5 different artists. This is such a fun way to explore the work of artists that are new to me or at least new to the collection and get some cool pieces featuring characters from one of my favorite comics without having to detract from my primary collecting focus. I've been wondering when/if my prompt would get to an artist that would choose to tackle Jack in the Box. I was worried that his costume would scare folks off, much like another garishly clad hero named Jack (IYKYK). But, if anyone was up to the challenge, it was always going to be JP. His highly kinetic style perfectly captures not only the vibrant colors (my first color mystery sketch!) of Jack's costume, but also the hero's high-energy acrobatics. And who doesn't love a good "SCHWOONG!"? Watch me unbox this one as part of the End of Year Art Unboxing Extravaganza! Social/Sharing |

Would make for a great sticker! Ill admit to only having read a few astro city books, and surprisingly, this dude was among those issues. CONGRATS.

A popular character from the start as the resident spider-Man stand-in in Astro City! Very dynamic action from JP with the arm extension acting like web shooting!

Is SCHWOONG! anything like a SCHLONG? I mean, it's pretty long.... A perfectly colored character for this holiday, too. Merry Christmas, Newell!

Awesome. I'm glad to finally see this one since Bill told us the Astro City piece on stream wasn't yours! JP is so dynamic and bright. A great Mystery Sketch.

Swooning for Shwoong! JP's style and colors work great for JITB! Maybe it's the white background but to me this has even more of a pop art and focused feel than some of his busier street art/graffitti art infused pieces, really cool! Congrats on the mystery sketch result and Merry Christmas!
