Bob Layton - Kitty Pryde and Lockheed

Bob Layton drew this for his Drink & Draw charity series in Korea and I jumped at it. Celebrating Kitty's Jewish heritage, it features Lockheed just seconds after he lit the menorah. This is the second in my Bob-draws-Jewish-superheroes series (the first was a commission for Sabra). Now I need to think of a few more commissions for Bob...The Thing, Moon Knight, heck maybe Galactus is Jewish, he loves matzo-ball-shaped food and is always hungry.

Anyway, before I get notes, yes, this is a Jewish menorah with seven candles. It is the traditional symbol of the Jewish people going back more than two thousand years. If you look at old coins from ancient Israel or the Arch of Titus in Rome, you see the ancient menorah like this. The more commonly known 9 candle menorah of Chanukah fame is referred to as a "Chanukiah" though sometimes also called a menorah as well. So now you know! And knowing is half the battle. G.I. Joe!
