Description
LARGE ART ALERT!

12 1/2" x 18 1/2" Image Area on a 14 1/2" x 20 1/2" Bristol Board.

This stunning cover art by Michael Cho serves as the definitive visual for the 2021 relaunch of the Mighty Marvel Masterworks series, specifically collecting the earliest 1962 adventures of the Incredible Hulk. Cho’s work here is a masterful homage to the character’s Silver Age roots, capturing the raw, unbridled power of the Green Goliath in a high-energy composition. The image features a massive, front-facing Hulk barreling through a rocky landscape, flanked by military jets that emphasize his scale and the constant pursuit he faced in those early stories.

Cho is renowned for his clean, illustrative style and his ability to modernize classic iconography while retaining its historical soul. In this piece, the bold use of perspective and thick, confident brushwork creates a sense of three-dimensional mass that perfectly suits the character. What truly sets this particular board apart for a collector is its impressive physical presence; the art is very large, significantly exceeding the standard 11" x 17" board size often found in modern comic production, making the image so much more impactful! It is a signature example of the artist's ability to create a new classic that stands alongside the legendary work of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby featured within the volume.

NOTE: Collectors should be aware of Michael Cho’s unique creative process for this piece. He begins by pencilling the composition digitally on a computer. These digital pencils are then printed directly onto Bristol board. Cho then completes the artwork by hand, embellishing the printed pencils with India ink directly on the board. Because of this workflow, this board is the only existing physical original art for this cover, as no physically pencilled board was ever created.

Fantastic use of heavy blacks and speed lines here. The contrast really makes the Hulk pop off the page, and the detail on the craggy terrain adds a great sense of scale. The dynamic composition is top-tier. There’s no mistaking that Kirby-esque power.
