Morpheus [Sandman] by Tony Sandoval

Hands down, the absolute best part of InnovaComix [Lugano] this year has been finally getting to meet the amazing [and quite elusive 😉 ] Tony Sandoval in person - and bombarding him with the thousand questions that have been quietly accumulating in my head over the thousand years I've been reading his work.

And then of course there's this, his beautiful take on Morpheus. Innova announced their full guest list at basically the last possible moment this year, and the fact that this piece still managed to find its way into existence seems like one part Tony's immense generosity and one part pure magic.

I've loved Tony's emotionally expressive visual language for about forever, and I'm really enjoying seeing Morpheus in this beautiful familiar style. The fragile lanky figure, the melancholic expression, the muted earthy palette… this feels like being entrusted with a small fragment of his universe, for which I'm beyond grateful.
