This page has a great tonal snap coming right off the previous one. Perkins shifts from the warmth of Cohen’s home to a colder, more urban mood. That exterior shot of the fire escape and brick facade of the building is astounding and sets it up perfectly. Inside, Gordon’s posture at the window says plenty before Bat-Man even arrives. The standout beat is the window entrance: Bat-Man slipping in without ceremony, catching Gordon mid-thought, and immediately shifting the energy of the room. Gordon’s irritation is almost funny in how human it is, but Bat-Man doesn’t give him a second to vent as he’s already locked onto the case. This is an exquisite splash, with a Bat-Man image very reminiscent of Count Dracula!
