Description

I love vintage pages featuring characters talking about topics that are even more topical today than they were when the art was originally published, and this is one of those pages! This page from Superman #139 by Jim Starlin & Joe Rubinstein dives into some heavy human drama right in the heart of the Daily Planet. The extreme close-up on Dirk Armstrong in the third panel really hammers home his anger, making the office friction feel just as intense as any supervillain showdown. It’s also an incredibly topical page, as we see Dirk complaining about the Planet’s new insurance not covering preexisting conditions! This page was published in 1998, but with this real-world issue being seemingly ripped from today's headlines is more topical today than ever before.
