Description
Picked this up for the context as much as the art.

Drawn and signed by George Tuska on April 26, 2009, just months before his passing in October of that year at age 93. Work from this period represents the very end of his output, and pieces like this are likely among the last sketches he completed.

Tuska is best known for his long association with Iron Man, but as with many artists of his generation, his work spans across Marvel’s core characters. What stands out here is how direct it feels, no overworking, no attempt to refine beyond what was necessary, just a quick, confident pencil sketch from an artist who had been doing this for decades.

From a collector standpoint, I tend to place value on pieces where the timing and context matter, and late-career work like this carries a different kind of significance. It’s not about polish, it’s about proximity to the end of a long and influential career.

Encapsulated CGC 9.8 Signature Series, sketch edition, with white pages. A final-year piece from one of Marvel’s foundational artists, and very likely part of his last body of work.

Yes, I agree - it is a very direct image, with real freedom in the lines. Tuska was a wonderful storyteller with an amazing sense of space, and the expression here is classic. Interesting background on your collecting approach, and a nice story.

Really appreciate that, Paul. That’s exactly what drew me to it...the directness and confidence in the lines. It feels honest and unpolished in the best way, especially knowing it’s from the final year of his career. Glad it resonated.
