The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones 2 page 25 By John Byrne and Terry Austin

I’ve always loved John Byrne, and I was really happy to pick this page up on Comic Art Live.I actually sold my previous Byrne Indiana Jones page last year, and I don’t usually regret selling pages, but that one stuck with me a little. I didn’t have a Byrne/Austin-era 1980s page in the collection anymore, and since X-Men pages are in a whole different universe price-wise, these first two issues of The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones have always felt like a great place to find that energy.I loved these two issues when I was a kid, and pages from them don’t seem to show up very often. So when this one popped up, it didn’t take me long to talk myself into it. I think this is a better page than the one I had before.It’s got a lot going for it: Indy appears in two panels, including that great close-up at the bottom, the storytelling is clear, the plane sequence is right at the big reveal of the ruse, and the whole page has that dense, confident 80s Marvel adventure look. There’s also plenty of Terry Austin here, maybe as much Austin as Byrne in some places, but that’s part of what I love about it. The finish is crisp, the blacks are strong, and the detail really sells the atmosphere.I know there’s some history and controversy around Byrne’s short run on Indiana Jones and his experience working with Lucasfilm, but these two issues remain a really fun little burst of Byrne doing pulp adventure. I’m very happy to have an example from this brief run back in the collection. One interesting note it's not on marvel paper or any kind of pre printed paper, just a regular piece of bristol. Lettering is done right on the page too.
