Krypto by Ryan Odagawa

This piece is part of a larger collection of comic art sketch cards that represent friends I have met along the way in the comic art hobby. Some were chosen because the collector seriously focuses on that character, and others simply because I noticed a piece in their gallery and wanted to see a sketch card interpretation of that character. I decided not to name names, leaving the collection open to interpretation, since it reflects the community as a whole and the shared connections that make this hobby meaningful. Each card is a tribute to the friendships formed, the generosity of fellow collectors, and the joy of discovering characters through someone else’s passion.

Ryan Odagawa really brought the playfulness of a puppy with this piece. I love Krypto’s expression, and it reminds me of a fun picture I took of my dog recently. This piece feels spot on for Krypto.

This piece was inspired by a collector I connected with early in my collecting. He is a collector of all creatures, but Krypto holds a special place in his collection. I have to say that my own collection was probably influenced by some of the pieces in his. I found myself appreciating several of his Guardians of the Galaxy pages, which helped set me down the path of my main collection. He has always reached out with pieces for me to share with the kids, since they were inspired by all the animal artwork. We have chatted quite frequently over the years, and I was lucky enough to run into him at the first OAX, which was awesome since we finally had the chance to talk in person. It was also fun seeing his favorite character hit the big screen when Superman came out, and my eldest daughter and I were rooting for Krypto in the theater.
