Back a thousand years ago, when I had just moved to Switzerland and was still recovering from what was certainly a fairly rough landing, I went to Fiera del fumetto Lugano, in an attempt to make myself feel better. There I met some interesting folk sitting on the floor painting with… uh… everything, and one thing led to another, and I was gifted these delightfully irreverent volumes: the complete EroPinocchio [the original strip version], by Massimiliano Frezzato. Yes, that is indeed a doodle of the artist… umm… floating… on the back of the first issue. xD
Earlier this year I was informed that Fiera del Fumetto is coming back this September… and I had a lot of big feelings about that. Today I was looking at this year's guest list, and I have a whole lot of feelings about that too. And then… have you seen the events page? They'll be screening Burattino Immortale, the Frezzato docu we sobbed through, last year in Lucca.
And still, the thread runs on.
Fiera del Fumetto used to be my absolute favourite festival, and I have a feeling it still is. I'm so, so happy it's coming back with such energy.
P.S. This trip down memory lane brought to you by the Lucca launch press conference, which somehow got me thinking about festivals past and future.
