Andy Kubert, Howard Stark Flees to Genoa (from Ultimate Iron Man)

Anticipating Zebediah Stane's attempt to violently take over his company, Howard Stark flees with his biggest asset, his armor-coated infant son Tony, and several loyal employees. But when they arrive at the Port of Genoa, they find one of their colleagues mindwiped as Stane's message that he knows where they are. Ultimate Iron Man # 2, page 15 (2005).

Kubert's landscape work is so good! In the first panel, the complexity of the waves (great job by inker Danny Miki) is offset by the simplicity of the clouds; and the way the clouds taper down, they almost seem to move the boat down panel. The second panel's line work on the buildings, the feathering of the vegetation, and the many boats in the dock – it's all meticulous. Limiting the heavy blacks to mainly the upper vegetation, Stark's boat, and the ocean, allows the city to shine.

Of the last four pieces I've posted, this is the third and final piece that I got from Nick Barrucci. I've been wanting to get more examples of work from artists heavily associated with Marvel, and his help in that regard has been appreciated.
