Run The Jewels - Let's Go (The Royal We)
The moment I saw the art style of Bhanu Pratap, I was immediately drawn to it. Not only because of the true uniqueness in style, but also the imagination and emotion in regards to concept. My initial reaction was that this was some form of fine art worked into the comic realm.
I reached out to Bhanu about a commission and at the same time was already thinking about a good subject. He had been posting some original interior page work around that time and instead of asking for a full character attempt, I thought that the interior page style commission would be interesting to see. We both agreed on Venom as a suitable character choice and let's just say I was excited about this before he even started.
Glad to say that the end result arrived in tangible form today all the way from New Delhi, and it is impressive. There might have been an audible squeal when I saw that it had been delivered safely.
On to the art itself, we get a seven panel interior culminating in a half splash with Venom standing on his own pile of tongue. Read that again. The visual storytelling here is outstanding. Panel to panel, there are some wonderful sight gags. Bhanu did a wonderful job of telling a full story in a single interior. Although the final panel is the showstopper, there is some great detail in every one of those panels. His character form is so original! I also can't get over the top right close up. It's a great example of geometric art and makes for such a unique panel.
Overall, I couldn't be more pleased with how this turned out. Want to send a sincere thank you to Bhanu! Give him a follow on Instagram here and also check out the Akira work that he did recently. You will be happy that you did.
