Yet another from the archives. It's a page from the seminal X-Men issue #14 which introduced the Sentinels. On this page, we have all the X-Men in the top panel with Professor X who has just given them a much deserved vacation after the brutal battle with the Juggernaut in the previous issue. The rest of the page introduces Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels, foreshadowing the scare tactics and ultimate attempted destruction of the X-Men which will take us across another two issues to #16.
This trilogy of issues is, in my view, a classic. Although Jack Kirby only did the layouts, Werner Roth is an extremely able penciller, taking over from Toth (in #12) and Sinnott (in #13). Unfortunately, Vinnie Colletta inked this particular issue (he also inked #12, which did not do justice to Alex Toth's pencils in that issue). One can tell straightaway that the inking could have been much better and it is fortunate that Ayers took over the inking in #15 and #16. Still, this is a seminal issue and it just occurred to me that I finally have a first appearance of someone in my collection (of Bolivar Trask)!
