Groo the Wanderer # 117 Pg. 1

Back in my prime comic book reading days of the 1980's and early 1990's one of my favorite comics was Groo; I first saw Groo in Destroyer Duck # 1 and then in Starslayer # 5.  I bought the first Groo comics published by Pacific Comics and then followed his entire run in the Marvel/Epic Groo series that lasted 120 issues.

I have long wanted a published Groo page and the fates smiled on me when I was able to contact Sergio's daughter Christen to inquire about some of Sergio's original artwork.  Christen very patiently sent me several examples of Groo pages that were available and when I saw this terrific title spash I quickly reserved it.  I love the wonderful detail throughout the page and the great shot of Groo and Rufferto as they stumble across a defeated band of ruffians that, surprisingly, Groo had not defeated!  I also love the dialogue with the rhyming introduction to the story and Rufferto's thoughts about Groo. 

When I received the artwork, Sergio had included a cute Groo charactiture in the lower margin along with a personalization.  Another really cool element of the page I was unaware of unrtil I received the artwork was the short message to Sergio that Mark Evanier had wtitten on the back of the board along with a great doodle Sergio had added;  This was a super cool bonus that only made me happier with this page!
