Description

Here's the page where Cap loses his beloved, resistance fighter Peggy Carter (Sharon's older sister, later retconned to be her aunt) during the allied liberation of Paris during World War II. I love 60's Lee/Kirby melodrama!

What a terrific Tales of Suspense page! Fabulous storytelling by John Romita and Frank Giacoia, from a layout by jack Kirby. I love how this page opens with Captain America trying to find his love, Peggy Carter, in Paris on VE Day. The images of the happy GIs celebrating victory are happy, even as they're painful to Cap, who just wants to search for Peggy,  While the soldiers cheer, Cap's frustration builds. What a great conflict this sets up for Steve Rogers, caught between joy and pain! The page ends with confused Peggy Carter, drifting away from the crowds because she's lost her memory. And then a final cut to Steve Rogers closing his window as he realizes he has lost his love forever. Fabulous storytelling--And isn't that what made Marvel Comics what they are? Great page from some great artists!
