Description
The Justice Society of America was Earth-2’s first superteam, forged in the heat of World War II, and featuring their most high profile heroes. They set the heroic standard for all those who followed them.

By contrast, the New Teen Titans were Earth-1’s most up and coming superteam. Sidekicks, former sidekicks and new heroes came together to create a new generation of heroism.

Though the two teams never did meet in the DCU, this series of commissions showcases the heroes and heroines of both in style!

Hawkman – Prince Khufu of ancient Egypt was unknowingly reincarnated in the 20th century, and as Carter Hall, Egyptologist and archaeologist, regained his cumulative past memories. When he recovered the memories of his past life, he used the properties of the mystic nth metal, which could defy gravity, and took to the skies as Hawkman, From that point started a long and distinguished career, including a stint as chairman of the JSA.

Khufu’s consort Chay-Ara was also reincarnated at that time, as a woman named Shiera Sanders. She soon became Hawkgirl, and the two developed a romance, finally marrying, and producing a son, Hector Hall.

Of Hawkmans assorted replacements, revised origins and outright reboots since the Crisis, the less said the better, unless you have industrial strength aspirin to hand, and we’re dealing with the classics here!

Speedy – Roy Harper, later known as both Arsenal and Red Arrow. As Robin was to Batman, so Speedy was the Green Arrow; a naturally gifted archer, matching his mentor bullseye for bullseye.

Ollie “Green Arrow” Queen however wasn’t quite as comfortable with the role of father figure as Bruce “Batman” Wayne was, and Roy found that despite the greater freedom he had compared to Robin, growing up was harder without someone to set some limits, at least until you are ready to face the world on your own.

Initially irrepressible and outgoing when with the Titans, he felt abandoned by Green Arrow, and drifted into drug addiction, a problem he overcame with help from Ollie, the Black Canary and the Titans.

He spent some time finding his niche, working with various anti-drug taskforces and working as a federal agent on occasion, during one instance of which he met and had an affair with the terrorist known as Cheshire, which produced their daughter Lian, the light of Roy’s life.

Here Roy is pictured in full “Boy Bowman” mode! Robin may have had the elf shoes, but let’s not forget that Speedy had the feathered cap! But then again, it’s never wise to make fun of someone holding a bow and arrow.

The Flash – Jay Garrick was the first hero to use the name “The Flash”. Thanks to inhaling the fumes of hard water he gained the power to move at extraordinary speed.

Donning a helmet patterned after that of Mercury, he was one of the first EVER superheroes, serving with distinction with the JSA even today.

He and Earth 1 Flash were the first heroes to meet in the days of the Multiverse, and Jay has served as mentor and advisor to many superfast heroes since then. He and his wife Joan even took in Bart “Impulse/Kid Flash/Flash” Allen when his former mentor Max Mercury, wasn’t available.

Also seen – Hawkgirl, Green Arrow (Standing atop the Perez Pizza Parlor ;) ) and the Flash’s long time foe Rag Doll.
