James Jean - Fables TPB 2: Animal Farm

James Jean created this for the second Fables TPB cover. It was also subsequently used for the cover the Fables Deluxe Edition hard cover. His phenominal covers were the reason I picked up Fables in the first place. It is but a single example of why James Jean is an Eisner award winner for four consecutive years.

His artistic genius is in the creation of imaginative, delicate and sometimes disturbing images that perfectly capture the essence of a story. He sets the bar for cover excellence precious few illustrators can ever hope to attain.

One of the most exciting things about James is he's only in his twenties. It's going to be a wild ride watching him explore uncharted territory and untapped creative reservoirs. He should do interior work so another cover artist can win an Eisner.

When asked in a recent comicbookresources.com interview what his favorite Fables cover was, jj "singled out the covers for the “Animal Farm” trade paperback and issue #54.
