An abundance of Gilbert's characters on this page. In order of appearance we have CASIMIRA, Luba's daughter, Sherif CHELO and TIPIN TIPIN. Followed by HERACLIO and wife CARMEN. The pregnant girl mouthing off is RIRI. Standing under the window is JESUS while LUBA tugs away CASIMIRA, and letting her babysister CONCEPCION kiss her.
The reason why Casimira's a hero is, that she singlehandedly fought off a bird that attacked another child and took his eye. Casimira drove away the bird by attacking it with her prostethis.
I think this page is a good example of Gilbert's ability to tell good stories - the way Riri gives the reader an insight into the darker areas of the characters life and sorrow and the way we just by looking at Casimira know, that the mind is a mysterious place.
Gilbert changed the mid panel - originally we saw Casimira lying in bed, while Luba was holding Concepcion like she's doing now, but they where in the foreground lower left corner. Behind Luba would be another bed, where Ofelia was tucking in another of Luba's children and a man would stand in a door in the background. (Heraclio presumably)
