DescriptionWhy is this way too weird? I'll get to that. This is the another piece (apparently illustration 18 on page 146) that Wallace Wood submitted for the the book "Henry Ford: Boy with Ideas" (1960) which was part of the the "Childhood of Famous Americans" Series. It shows plainly why Wood didn't do more. I scanned it dark so that you can see the picky and weird editorial comments. One can just look at this and empathize with Woody's frustration. Wood should have punched him. No, this piece is not personalized to someone named Busty, the editor thought the lady's chest was too big and he had a problem keeping his too's and to's straight, a mistake he repeats near the bottom. The woman's got a B cup and he's, no doubt, thinking, "Migod, she's as big as Harriett Nelson! That stuff may be fine for the perverts on Ozzie and Harriett, but we run a clean ship!" The comments are picky or ridicuous for the most part, ("show shoes", "shadow to boxy") but the topper can be found in the part of the lady's dress where...um...her legs and torso come together. Um..."hair?" that's none of your business fella and a strange inquiry for a guy hung up over showing moderately small breasts under yards of muslin. Yeah, yeah, I know, but it sure looks like he's asking about... Social/Sharing |

You're right. Wood should have punched the "editor."
